Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry (approximately 10 oz), thawed
- 1 cup (about 4 oz) shredded cheese (e.g., sharp cheddar, Gruyère, or a mix)
- 1/4 cup (about 2 oz) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Lightly dust the work surface with flour to prevent the puff pastry from sticking. Place the thawed puff pastry sheet on it and roll it out gently until it is about half an inch thick.
- Evenly distribute the shredded cheeses over half of the puff pastry, making sure to leave the edges clear to prevent the filling from spilling out.
- Sprinkle the cheese layer with the grated Parmesan and optional spices like garlic and onion powder. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Fold the other half of the puff pastry over the cheese layer and press the edges lightly together to seal.
- Cut the filled pastry into strips about 1-2 cm wide. Twist each strip gently to expose the filling. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Brush the twists generously with the egg mixture to achieve a golden color when baking.
- Bake the cheese twists for about 12-15 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them towards the end of the baking time to prevent burning.
- After baking, let the twists cool slightly before serving. They taste best warm!

Keywords: Avoid overloading the cheese twists with too much filling, as this can make sealing difficult and cause the twists to fall apart while baking. Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese and spices to find your perfect flavor.
