Description

This dish brings back childhood memories with its golden, crispy gnocchi and rich, creamy mushroom sauce. A delightful combination of flavors that will warm your heart and satisfy your taste buds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g mushrooms
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or 30 g butter)
  • 400 ml cream (or cream substitute)
  • 1 tablespoon flour (or cornstarch)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 800 g gnocchi
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • some chives or spring onions

Instructions

  1. Peel and finely dice the onion. This takes about 2 minutes.
  2. Thoroughly clean the mushrooms and slice them evenly. This should also take about 2 minutes.
  3. In a large pot, heat the olive oil (or butter) over medium heat. After about 1-2 minutes, the oil should be hot enough to add the onion.
  4. Add the onion to the pot and sauté over medium heat until translucent, which takes about 3-4 minutes. Be careful not to let it brown too much.
  5. Add the mushrooms to the pot and sauté for another 4-5 minutes until they are soft and have released some liquid. You will notice they take on a golden color.
  6. Deglaze with the cream and stir well. The sauce should now take on a creamy consistency.
  7. Mix the flour with 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl and then stir it into the sauce to thicken it. This should take about 1-2 minutes.
  8. Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and paprika. Let the sauce simmer for another 10 minutes until it thickens and smells good.
  9. In a separate pan, heat the oil or butter and add the gnocchi. Sauté for 5-6 minutes, stirring constantly, until they are golden brown.
  10. Plate the sautéed gnocchi, pour the mushroom cream sauce over them, and garnish with chives or spring onions as desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Keywords: A common mistake is cooking the gnocchi too long. Make sure to sauté them only until golden brown to avoid a mushy result. Use a large non-stick pan for even cooking and consider adding fresh herbs like thyme or parsley for extra flavor.
